With Gratitude to Ning Chiu!

As part of my #mindfulness practice, I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal – and I’ve been showing my appreciation for my dear friends here. This appreciation is for Ning Chiu.

I first heard about Ning twenty years ago from a friend who went to work at Davis Polk. I had just started in the publishing business and he told me that I had to meet Ning. That she was the smartest lawyer he had ever met.

It took five years til I did – but I remembered her name and when the opportunity arose, I jumped at it. And whoa, he was right. She is the smartest lawyer you’ll meet. Not just “book smart.” She is “smart smart.” Full of common sense.

But Ning is much more than that. She is full of compassion & empathy. She actively strives to mentor younger lawyers. Counsels us old ones too. Ning is someone I’ve turned to for advice – both professional and personal – many times over the years. It’s like having a second mother (who’s younger than me). Ning is a dear, dear person and a wonderful friend.
