We loved you Abbie Arms! Thanks for everything!

It’s with great sadness that I note that Abbie Arms has passed away. Abbie was a giant in Corp Fin for decades, silently ruling the roost with a strength that belied her appearance.

When I first started at the SEC, Abbie served as Deputy Chief Counsel under Bill Morley, the large man alongside Abbie’s short stature. Both of them with as keen a legal mind as you can find. When I came back to the SEC five years later, Abbie had risen so that she served above the Chief Counsel, who by then was Marty Dunn.

Until you got to know Abbie, you were a little bit scared of her. She seemed to know everything. She took her job seriously. And she was quiet in her demeanor. That’s a trifecta that can be unnerving.

But once you got to know her, you realized she had a heart of gold. She really cared about everyone in Corp Fin. She took pains to put the SEC – and the Staff – above her own needs. She indeed was as kind as she looked. I know she did more for me than I’ll ever know, and I love her for that.

Here’s the obituary celebrating Abbie from the Washington Post. It describes what an amazing person, loving friend and mentor she was…
